The Smart Building

The new ICSE Las Palmas headquarters has features that were ahead of their time, aiming to set a trend and convey the values it represents: sustainability, environment, integration, accessibility, equality, and more. To achieve this, it is based on a series of properties and characteristics that make it a unique building in the Canary Islands.

The building has more than 5,500 m2 of built area. The company’s identity must be reflected in every corner. Four basic principles guided the decision-making process during construction:

  • Representativeness: The aim is for the new ICSE to leave a mark and open unexplored paths in the Canary archipelago. There are no similar facilities on any of the seven islands.
  • Innovation: A unique level of innovation that defines sustainable architecture and engineering: double-skin façade, use of high-quality noble materials, LED lighting, photovoltaic panels, wind energy, biomass, water recycling, and more.
  • Efficiency: The pursuit of maximum energy efficiency has been, and continues to be, a priority. All equipment and facilities are at the highest level of environmental respect.
  • Teaching: ICSE has been dedicated to training since 1979. For this reason, the foundation of the building is that all its elements have been designed and built with a strong educational purpose.

Building control, including climate, lighting and access control, with external slats featuring a “sunflower effect” that move according to lighting conditions. This helps minimise possible malfunction of the centre caused by human interaction.

From the outset, the centre was designed so that anyone, regardless of their physical abilities, can access every part of it and enjoy its facilities.

The building’s excellent location makes immediate connections possible from anywhere on the island. Just 500 metres away, about 6 minutes on foot, is the Parque Santa Catalina transport interchange, with bus connections to the airport, the city centre and the south of the island.
